  About Us

San Juan Kids believes that every child has special gifts and talents, and all children grow and develop at different rates. Each child will have his or her own timetable for activities such as walking and talking. Sometimes a child needs a helping hand to get the best start for a full and active life.

In Archuleta, La Plata, and San Juan Counties, San Juan Kids provides families with infants and toddlers (birth to 3 years of age) who have developmental or special health care needs with:

1)     A personal service coordinator to help you plan and access a variety of available services for your child

2)     Access to resources and valuable information to assist in making informed decisions about your child’s needs

3)     Information about activities and opportunities in your community

4)     Links to professionals who can provide information and support

5)     Visits from trained staff to help evaluate your child’s development in the natural environment of your home and in the context of your family's everyday routines

6)     Opportunities to meet other families who share similar experiences

7)     Opportunities to become more involved in San Juan Kids early intervention activities such as serving on our council or helping coordinate family events

Our professional staff is trained, committed and sensitive to your unique needs and cultural background.  The information and support we provide enable you to make informed decisions about what is best for your family.

Our program is directed by the San Juan Kids Council, which is our local interagency coordinating council, with funding from Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Department of Human services.  We are located in Community Connections - see Our Partners for more information on San Juan Basin Health Department and Community Connections, with whom we work very closely.
